:: christmas week { clay decorations } ::

I am so excited for todays post!! This year i have decided to make my own christmas decorations for the tree! I found this great little DIY bird made from air-drying clay! It’s Perfect for what i have in mind, so i made some hearts and stars to go along with it!

Working with air-drying clay is dead easy, just cut pieces of the clay block and roll it out with a rolling pin { wooden surfaces or cutting boards are best } I roll mine about 0.5 mm, but thicker can work as well. Next i use cookie cutters to make the hearts and stars, you can make any shape under the sun! Here comes the fun part, decorating! I used a star that i bought from woolies, its all curly and makes great impressions in the clay, lace works well to, or even stamps! Leave your clay decorations on a drying rack and let it fully dry out, otherwise it will crack or brake.

TIP: if the clay starts cracking or if you want to smooth out the surface or edge use a few water drops and rub with your fingers! Works like a charm!

TIP FOR BIRD: i used quite a lot of water to sculpt mine. I also found it was easier to sculpt the head first, in a rolling ball way. Last but not least, use a toothpick to make a hole so you can hang it up!

Have fun making yours!
